Your Furnace Is More Than 10 Years Old? Retire It And Save Yourself Some Money

Going into the winter heating season, having a reliable and efficient furnace is a must to provide your home and family with a safe and warm indoor environment.  For your peace of mind and to save on your winter heating bills, it is important that the furnace you are running is not one that is past its prime. Many furnaces can continue to run for up 35 years, but if you have had yours for more than 15 years, it may be a good time to consider a replacement.

The fact is, even as recently as 10 or 15 years ago, heating systems were significantly less energy efficient than they are now. The efficiency of many older units are probably close to 80 percent. That might not sound too bad, but the current standard for newer appliances is in the range of 95 to 100 percent efficiency. That extra 15 to 20 percent makes a big difference.

It may seem like a risky investment to go out and get a new, high-efficiency furnace, and that is understandable. Many households are reluctant to get an upgrade simply because of the initial cost, but it is imperative to remember that it can save you significantly in the long run. Once you make the call to upgrade the fuel efficiency of your heating appliance, you will immediately see your heating bills start to drop in price.

So, if your home is still using a heating system that is more than 10 years old, it might be time for an upgrade. Contact the professionals at Smoky Mountain Heating & Air for help determining the best, most efficient option for your home’s heating needs.

Our goal is to help educate our customers about energy and home comfort issues (specific to HVAC systems).  For more information about furnaces and other HVAC topics, download our free Home Comfort Resource guide.
