It Pays To Use A Certified HVAC Expert: Find Out Why — And 3 Reasons To Avoid Online Furnace Deals

When you need a new furnace, you might be tempted to turn to the Internet to learn your options, since it’s so convenient. However, without the help of a certified HVAC expert, the odds of choosing the right system for your home are low. Heating systems may be the most complicated part of your home, and consulting with an expert steers you in the right direction.

Your heating and cooling costs account for almost half of your utility expenses throughout the year, and a furnace purchase is a high-ticket item, whether you buy one online or locally. The Internet is a good place to learn about energy-efficient furnaces and how different types of systems work, but it may not be the best place to actually purchase your furnace for three reasons:

  1. Warranties may not be extended for parts and labor. Since the HVAC installer is probably not a licensed dealer for the brand you choose, the manufacturer may not warrant the furnace. The HVAC contractor may not guarantee the installation, either.
  2. The size of the furnace may be wrong. In the past, builders often put in heating and cooling systems that were either too large or too small If you go by your existing unit without consulting a certified HVAC expert, you may make the same mistake again. When your furnace is too large, it runs more frequently for shorter periods, creating more wear and tear and providing less-efficient heating.  If your furnance is too small, it may not be able to meet your heating demand.
  3. Other components including your thermostat or ductwork may not work well with the system you choose, creating more costly installation and higher operational costs over time.

Using local resources and consulting a certified HVAC expert assures you that you’re getting the furnace that works best for your home, and that you’ll get top-notch installation and service over the life of your system.
