Creative Furnace Replacement Tips When You’re On A Budget That Just Won’t Give

Creative Furnace Replacement Tips When You're On A Budget That Just Won't GiveReplacing a furnace can be an expensive ordeal, so its important to educate yourself on what you need to look for in order to get the best value. Here are three simple furnace replacement tips that will help you pick out an affordable furnace that won’t force you to sacrifice any of the comfort you are used to:

Sizing

It is incredibly important that you don’t just get the biggest furnace you can afford thinking it will provide the most comfort. A furnace that is too large will not work efficiently and will haunt you each month during the heating season when you see your heating costs. A unit that is too small will likewise be problematic because it won’t be able to meet your heating needs.

Ratings

The efficiency of heating equipment is measured by its AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency). The higher the rating, the more efficient — and most likely expensive — it will be. The more efficient furnaces will generate more savings that will help to offset the additional cost after a few years, usually at least five. The life span of a furnace is anywhere from 10 years to 30 years depending on the make and type fuel, so upgrading could provide years of savings on your energy costs.

Rebates

Energy Star is a program developed by the U.S. Department of Energy that encourages energy efficiency for the improvement of the environment as well as lower utility costs for homeowners. They offer many rebates on furnaces that meet certain energy efficiency standards. These rebates can help to significantly reduce the cost of a new system. And the fact that you are purchasing an energy efficient system will help you keep your energy costs down month after month.
