Unrealized Energy Savings? You Might Need An HVAC Contractor If…

When readying your home for the heating season in Asheville, don’t overlook the attic, roof and furnace — prime spots where maintenance and repairs can create energy savings for you throughout the winter. If you find puzzling or challenging problems, consider calling an HVAC contractor when you find problems like these:

  • Kitchen and bath fan vents that don’t vent through the roof: The exhaust from the vents contains plenty of humid air. When the humid air builds in your attic it can condense on your insulation, which degrades the ability of the material to protect your home from cold, as well as retarding heat transference from the ceilings through the roof. Vents that end in the attic need to be extended outside of the building, a task that involves precision installation for maximum protection against the weather. The HVAC technician can also advise you on your attic’s insulation levels.
  • HVAC ducts: Leaks or kinks in ductwork can raise your energy bills considerably. HVAC technicians use equipment, techniques and materials that effectively seal the ducts, contributing to significant energy savings for you.
  • Metal or masonry chimneys: If you notice cracks or rust, contact an HVAC contractor immediately. Your family’s safety may be at risk when these occur. Technicians have the training to diagnose why these problems developed, both from structural issues and furnace problems, and fix the issues, increasing energy savings and your family’s safety.
  • Furnace tuneups: While you need to change your own furnace filters on a regular basis, having an annual furnace tuneup by an HVAC expert spots small issues that can grow into larger problems, especially if you notice that your heating bills are higher than normal. Among other tasks, the technicians check for cracks in the combustion chamber, clean the burner and heat exchanger, calibrate your thermostat, oil the blower motor and tighten all the wires.

When you have any of these problems, please contact us at Smoky Mountain Heating & Air. We can help you achieve energy savings and ensure your heating system’s safety.

Our goal is to help educate our customers about energy and home comfort issues (specific to HVAC systems).  For more information about energy savings and other HVAC topics, download our free Home Comfort Resource guide.
