Your Air Conditioner’s Getting Noisy — Do You Know Why?

air conditioner noise asheville north carolinaWhen your air conditioner is getting noisy, it can be extremely frustrating to both you and your neighbors. That annoying sound can prevent you from enjoying a television show, a conversation or even a good night’s sleep. Though there are solutions to your noise problem, you may find after reading through the facts that an upgrade may be the more cost effective choice.

Why your air conditioner’s getting noisy

Many times, an air conditioner starts getting loud as it approaches its “retirement age.” The most common cause of loud equipment is from a failing compressor. At this point, your only option is to upgrade your cooling system. If you have a newer system, you may be scratching your head and wondering why your air conditioner’s getting noisy. In this cases, dirty fan blades or loose parts could be the culprit.

How to remedy a noisy air conditioner

Regardless of its age, when your air conditioner’s getting noisy, it’s time to call in the professionals. An HVAC technician will be able to tell you if your compressor is failing or if there’s another problem. Regular preventive maintenance will allow your HVAC contractor to prevent problems before they start by making sure your equipment is always clean and parts are always tightened. If your air conditioner’s noise is still bothering you, consider using a compressor blanket or erecting a small sound barrier fence to reduce noise levels.

If your compressor has failed, you will need to upgrade your air conditioner. You may consider making the switch to a new system regardless, even if your current equipment is more than a few years old. Though the initial investment may seem like a burden, the air conditioners being manufactured today are designed to be far quieter and promote greater energy savings. Working with an HVAC contractor to find an energy efficient air conditioning system will pay you back through lower monthly utility bills, and you may even qualify for a tax rebate.
